Kristy’s Memoir

By: Kristy N. McFadyen

On July 10 of 2002 my world was completely changed. The most important person in my life had been sick almost as long as I could remember. Her body couldn’t handle it anymore and she passed away. This person was my mother.

My mom, Teresa McFadyen was a very outspoken person. If there were something she did not like, then you would know it! She was also very kind and fun to be around. Of course, we did a lot of things together and she taught me a lot about life. I could talk to my mom about almost anything… she was just cool like that!

Teresa was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes when she was thirteen years old. This was the start of many health problems in her life, including kidney failure, poor circulation, bad eyesight and heart problems. Despite al of this, she always kept a positive attitude and tried to hide pain. She gave the credit for her happiness to God.

On Monday July 8 my mom’s pain was just too much. She had been up the past night crying with pain. She was taken to the hospital and I went to stay with a friend of the family. The doctors said there wasn’t hardly any circulation in her legs and that they would have to be amputated. This was the news mother had known would come eventually but did not want to hear. She was hurting very badly until that Wednesday morning, when the lord decided to take her home to heaven.

The weeks after that morning seemed to last an eternity. I felt so sick and my stomach was constantly hurting with the worry of what would come next. I really miss my mom, she was one of the most important people in my life and I lost her. Although there is emptiness in my heart from my mother’s death, it is slowly beginning to fill with the love of family, friends and God and the comfort of knowing that she is no longer in pain, in heaven.
